(Extract from Stephen King)

Long live the Page and People of the book!
Good people they’re who make texts doctrines
of law and regulations, authors authority,
supreme beings of the intellectual world they’re.

I can’t imagine their giving up readin’
nor the rationality found in print’d pages
than I can ideate lightin’
a candle in a high wind.

Immortal objects that speaks without speakin’
needs no batteries, ne’er crashes unless thrown in the corner
when bound they’ve weight and texture
makin’ a pleasant presence in the hand.

Nothing smells as good like a new book
mostly when you get your nose close to the bindin’
where you can still catch an acid tang of the glue.
The only thing close is peppery smell of an old one.

An old books’ odour is the scent of history
and that of a new, the look and prophecy of the future.
You can have my gold and cheques, but you’ll my books
when you pry my cold, dead fingers off the binding.

Long live the Page and People of the book!
