MMM-Ponzi-Scheme

He rang me severally:
“Earn $100,000 monthly working from home.”
He persuaded even more with a tweet:
“This is a lifetime opportunity
don’t miss it!

You don’t have to sell a thing
all you’ve to do is have two legs –
sign up, recruit – that’s all;
yes, refer two friends or relatives,
to complete your pyramid.

Not a pyramid, like a pyramid scheme or a Ponzi
but you know you got to have a broad base
with you at the top to earn fat like Mavrodi;
the first gets the oyster
the second a shell.”

“What of the third?”
“He’ll be late for the party;
it’s first-come-first-served – a vulturine trade.”
“Do honest people do this?” I again asked
“Yes, they do; it’s government-approved – 100% legit.”

A year after, he still peddles a Colt
with worn-out tires and testimonials –
a ‘pie-in-the-sky’ instant riches stories
of yet another company taking off at the ground floor
doling out six figures to new sign-ups.

“Why not try it?” again he urges
“What do you have to lose?” Unknown to him,
prior liaison was a hole in my pocket
condemning me to ruin where it matters most –
my friends, family, and associates.

This piece is a tribute to many who lost their savings and reputation to МММ (a Russian company that perpetrated one of the world’s largest Ponzi schemes of all time). Fooled with hope, men favour deceit; trusted on, thinking that Sergei Mavrodi will pay.
